Dementia Day Care Centres and Centre of Excellence – Kirklees Council
20th July 2021
ESD have now commenced stage 4 MEP design works on two new build schemes for Kirklees Council to construct a combined dementia day care and centre of excellence facility on the site of the existing Knowl Park House care home in Mirfield and a dementia day care centre on the site of the existing Homestead care home in Huddersfield .
The projects running concurrently have been developed through an extensive feasibility stage programme working closely with the client specialist delivery team and with input from Sterling University on the scheme design requirements to achieve the Dementia Gold standard.
The interior of the building has been carefully designed to accommodate all current good practices and recommendations to provide a spacious, airy and safe building for all service users incorporating a wellbeing zone, craft and activity zone and home therapy zone.
The significant external landscaping design allows multi-sensory facilities within the dementia garden linking the internal space to the outside space with external activities and features for mental stimulation and relaxation.
The scheme will incorporate renewable technologies including Air Source Heat Pumps and Photovoltaic panels and integration of new assisted technology systems which will be utilised in the day care centres and then developed and interrogated within the centre of excellence for roll out where practical in the community to support people living with Dementia.
We are pleased to be part of the integrated multi-disciplinary team working alongside Frank Shaw & Associates Architects, HSP Structural and BEA Landscape Architects.
The construction of both schemes is due for commencement in early 2022.
